Parents are just as responsible for their child’s education as teachers are…

Play2Health was founded on the belief that parents need tools to work with their children and that they need to be a partner in their child’s education; to make learning a priority at home and at their own pace. It should be easy to use educational tools where they learn through fun, hands on experiments, and games in math, science, reading, active games/play and more.

When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.” This is the conclusion of A New Wave of Evidence, a report from the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory.

The report, a synthesis of research on parent involvement over the past decade, also found that, regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to:

  1. Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
  2. Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
  3. Attend school regularly
  4. Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
  5. Graduate and go on to post-secondary education (see A New Wave of Evidence, Southwest Educational Development Laboratory, for additional details).

The study, Parent involvement and student academic performance: A multiple mediational analysis, found the following:

Parent involvement in a child’s education is consistently found to be positively associated with a child’s academic performance.

However, there has been little investigation of the mechanisms that explain this association.

The study examined two potential mechanisms of this association: the child’s perception of cognitive competence and the quality of the student-teacher relationship.

This study used a sample of 158 seven-year old participants, their mothers, and their teachers.

  1. Results indicated a statistically significant association between parent involvement and a child’s academic performance, over and above the impact of the child’s intelligence.
  2. A multiple mediation model indicated that the child’s perception of cognitive competence fully mediated the relation between parent involvement and the child’s performance on a standardized achievement test.
  3. The quality of the student-teacher relationship fully mediated the relation between parent involvement and teacher ratings of the child’s classroom academic performance.

Engaging with children is an opportunity to bond with them, to help them learn, to explore, to be creative and more…

Creativity is about expressing ourselves. It is about trying new things and new ways of being. Creativity involves being imaginative and original.

Many wrongly believe that creativity is limited to the ‘arts’; for example, music, drama, art, craft, dance, writing, etc… But these artistic areas are not the only ways we can express creativity and you certainly don’t have to be good at art to be creative.

Creativity is a way of thinking and being which can be expressed in many areas of life like science, business, math and cooking. We can all be creative in our own way.

Creativity is often more about the process, rather than the actual product.

The creative process is useful for many reasons, including:

  1. Developing confidence in ourselves
  2. Developing good relationships with those we are being creative with in the process
  3. Finding out what our talents and strengths are and increasing our positive emotions

In short, the creative process helps us flourish by teaching us about who we are, what we love, and what we can give to the world.

With the advent of social media, we as parents and our children are spending more and more of our ‘free’ time online. Is this productive? Only you can answer that.

The question that gets asked many times is, ‘How can I use my free time to bond with my child, help them develop skills, creativity and drive their curiosity?’

Employers today want employees to have command of basic skills and figure out who is curious and creative; this leads to innovation.

Today, what we have long considered to be a ‘normal’ working career continues to evolve; careers and career paths are changing. This demands that our children be equipped with the fundamentals that allow them to expand their creativity and curiosity while demonstrating a proficiency of social skills, math, vocabulary, reading comprehension and more.

We need to offer our children every opportunity to develop their love of learning and expand their curiosity and creativity; to never lose their ‘inner child’. This curiosity and creativity is what will serve them in this fast pace technology driven world now and in the future.

Play2Health offers many activities and learning experiences for children, from toddlers to adolescents, ranging from science experiments, arts/crafts, magic tricks and much, much more that will assist them to overcome the challenges that we face. Sometimes we all need a helping hand.

As a parent, are you better off spending several hours searching the web or a social media website for worksheets and games to help develop your child’s creativity, curiosity and love of learning?

Or, are you better off utilizing a platform such as Play2Health, that offers all of this and more for pennies a day and spending those precious hours helping your child develop their confidence in themselves while also enhancing your parent/child relationship? This can be done by assisting them in finding out what their talents and strengths are and increasing their self esteem and positive emotions.

This is the time where life long memories are made. What do you want your child’s memories to be?

The method used for a child to learn should be as unique as they are; not all children learn the same way…not every challenge a child faces in school can be taught in the way that they learn…

In today’s fast paced, technology driven world, its easy to fall behind with social skills and basic skills development. This is not to say that technology is ruining society because that’s far from the truth; however, it is dumbing our society down.

We’re removing the necessity of skills such as face-to-face communications, doing basic math without the help of a calculator, and writing in proper English.

Texting alone has made a huge impact on the grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills of people of all ages, including those over 25. Teachers see it and employers are seeing it now too.

These technologies, at our disposal, are here to make our lives easier, and teach us things we didn’t already know, or have forgotten. Instead of using them to teach us, we use them to correct us, move on, and forget. If spell check says you spelled a word wrong, make note of it, correct it, move on, and most of all, remember.

Sometimes we all need a helping hand and the ability to spend a little time and effort to allow us to grow and develop skills to overcome the challenges that we face.

Play2Health offers solutions to help your child feel competent and grow their self-confidence as they expand their knowledge and ability to demonstrate proficiency with challenges.

Creating opportunities for skill building, encouraging creativity and success is an important process. One way to do this is to allow for children to learn at their own pace, free of the fear of failure and mistakes.

As parents, we want to help our children succeed in learning the things that they may struggle with…

The key to raising a well-rounded child is to establish a solid support system at home so that they grow up satisfied with their achievements and ambitions.

The goal, as a parent, is to help your child feel competent and confident, and to help them develop a sense of passion and purpose.

Support your child through finding and developing their strengths and weaknesses so they can be confident and productive. Kids enjoy the process of discovering what they are good at and improving what does not come as easy.

Help them mature emotionally and live healthy, balanced lives.

The end goal as a parent is to develop well-rounded kids who become well-adjusted adults.

As parents, we want to encourage our children’s interests, curiosity, creativity and natural gifts…

As parents we want to help our children succeed in learning the things that they may struggle with…

Sometimes everyone needs a helping hand; the ability to spend a little time and effort to allow us to grow and develop to overcome the challenges that we face.

Play2Health activities encourage children to explore and be exposed to many opportunities; to develop skills that will engage and benefit them throughout life.
